The legacy of Walt Whitman is still felt 200 years after his birth. To celebrate and commemorate this auspicious occasion, we're calling all Indonesian poets to recite original poetry inspired by Whitman on our stage for an opportunity to win fantastic prizes!

Terms & Conditions:

• Participants must be 15 years old or above
• You can register here at the latest 3 days before the event
• Slots are limited to 15 participants
• Participants have to be able to read in English with clear pronunciation
• Experience in poetry performance is not required
• Each participant reads a poem relevant to the theme of Walt Whitman's poetry: self-exploration, the meaning of life and death, existentialism.  Relevance with the theme will be considered in scoring
• The performed poem must be the reader's original work
• The poem shall be recited in 3 minutes or less.  Any poems whose reciting requires more than 3 minutes should be shortened accordingly
• The poem is to be performed with no background music, no costume/ props
• The winner will receive:
  •   1st Winner: Kindle Fire 7 with Alexa, Walt Whitman: Poetry and Prose (Library of America) and books voucher
  •   2nd Winner: Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass (150th Anniversary Edition) and books voucher
  •   3rd Winner: Song of Myself: With a Complete Commentary (Iowa Whitman Series) and books voucher
