To celebrate the 4th of July, @america put together a lineup of exciting events, from an interactive exhibition at @america to a lively karaoke party. One of the standout events on the calendar was the Jakarta Historic Tour.
The Jakarta Historic Tour 2026 marked the very first tour event ever held by @america. For those who missed out or are curious about how it went, here’s the full recap!
Great Collaboration: @america, Jakarta Good Guide, and TransJakarta
The Jakarta Historic Tour was a collaboration between @america, Jakarta Good Guide (JGG), and TransJakarta. The tour combined a walking tour and a bus tour, taking participants to various historic sites, American cultural spaces, and iconic locations that tell the long story of the relationship between Indonesia and the United States.
The event welcomed 90 participants, guided directly by seven licensed tour guides from JGG. With that many participants, the atmosphere was lively, warm, and full of engaging conversation throughout the journey.
Getting to Know the Tour Partners
Jakarta Good Guide (JGG) is a community-based initiative offering cultural experiences and walking tours around Jakarta. Founded in 2014, JGG is now run by 15 licensed tour guides ready to share Jakarta’s history in a fun and easy-to-understand way.
Meanwhile, TransJakarta Open Top Tour is an open-top double-decker sightseeing bus service operated by TransJakarta. The bus is designed to take passengers on a journey past iconic landmarks, historic sites, and the city’s modern centers.
Jakarta Historic Tour 2026 Route
Interestingly, the tour was divided into two different routes so participants could experience Jakarta from more varied perspectives.
Walking Tour Route
The walking route took participants through areas rich with historical stories, including:
- Lapangan Banteng
- Istiqlal (Voice of Istiqlal/VOIST)
- Jalan Pintu Air
- Pos Bloc
Along this route, participants explored old buildings while listening to historical stories from the JGG guides, a community that has been active since 2014 and is now well known for its Instagram following of more than 140,000.
TransJakarta Tour Route
After the walking portion, participants continued their journey aboard TransJakarta’s open-top double-decker bus, stopping at the following points:
- Monas
- U.S. Embassy Jakarta
- Patung Kuda
- Sarinah
- Bundaran HI
- @america, Pacific Place
Riding an open-top double-decker bus while taking in the sights of Jakarta made for a memorable experience, especially while hearing the stories behind each landmark along the way.
Getting to Know the American Spaces in Jakarta
One of the most interesting parts of the tour was the chance to get a closer look at the American Spaces in Jakarta — spaces that represent the cultural and diplomatic ties between Indonesia and the United States.
Voice of Istiqlal (VOIST)
Located within the Istiqlal Mosque complex, VOIST is a space that represents cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue, as well as a symbol of harmony that is also part of the story of the Indonesia-U.S. relationship.
MyAmerica Jakarta
Located within the U.S. Embassy Jakarta, this space offers a variety of programs and information about the United States for the public, ranging from education to culture, serving as one of the touchpoints that strengthens the connection between Indonesians and Americans.
@america
As the tour’s final stop, @america is where participants got to experience American culture firsthand in the heart of Jakarta, while also serving as a hub for various educational and cultural programs open to the public.
